What is a safari?
The Swahili word SAFARI means JOURNEY, the Swahili verb for “to travel” is kusafiri. These terms refer to any form of voyage, such as a bus ride from Nairobi to Mombasa or a ferry ride from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar.
SAFARI entered the English language around the end of the 1850s, courtesy to the famed explorer Richard Francis Burton. Now it’s an international common word for wild adventure.

From Mt. Kilimanjaro to Serengeti National Park,Tanzania gifts us the next unique and unforgettable experience.
ENJOY TOURING organizes private safaris only.
This means your tour will be unique and designed with your interests in mind. One of the main decisions one has to make when designing a safari tour is the accommodation level. Tanzania can offer a very wide spectrum of accommodation styles, from mid-range tented camps and safari lodges to world-class luxury accommodation which will indulge your senses and give you one of the most exclusive experiences on Earth.
We can book any hotel in Tanzania, but to focus on this safari program, we recommend Comfort Accommodation, similar to 4* classification in Europe. These are larger lodges of networks, Serena or Sopa Lodges, that also a high level of comfort.
On your request we can adapt the offer to higher standard as:
Exclusive – Typically exclusive luxury camps, fantastic locations and more intimate experiences.
Premium – The most exclusive and luxurious camps and hotels in each park.
Important:
The hotels which we usually book are detailed on the daily itinerary.
It is possible to completely customize the itinerary and duration of the program according to your preferences, travel dates, group size and budget.
Do note that the hotels included in the program are our suggestions but they are subject to availability which will only be confirmed at the time of booking. If a hotel is not available at the time of booking, or closed during the dates of travel, suitable alternatives of same level will be provided.
The cost for the international flights to Kilimanjaro Airport / Serengeti / Arusha / Zanzibar are not included in the safari cost, as the flights are very dynamic in changing availability and price.
The flight cost varies from 900 eur to 1500 eur per person, in economy class, depending on how early we book it and according to the availability.
KARIBU TANZANIA!

Overnight at Chanya Lodge 4* Moshi. Dinner in the hotel restaurant, by the pool, next to a beautiful garden.
Day 1 – Transfer to Tarangire National Park
If you landed yesterday and you stay in Arusha or Moshi, please enjoy your early breakfast. Soon, the driver/guide will come to pick you up for the safari joy!
If you land today, your arrival estimated time is 8am, on a Qatar Airlines flight.
The driver/guide meets you in the airport and packs your bags in the safari car. You’ll have a nice breakfast with a short briefing on the adventures that awaits you.
Now, that we’ve met, we become friends and family for a few days. In the wild we need to stick together and rely on each other. This is the first rule: listen to the guide, he’s a local, he’s a pro, he’s responsible for us. Let’s enjoy and don’t get into trouble.
This is your first day on safari, so we need to pay special attention to the national parks visitor rules and our safari company recommendations.
During the safari it is strictly prohibited to exit the vehicle, except for in specially designated areas, like the picnic areas. Violations of this rule may be accompanied by large fines for the safari company, including the revocation of its license. Off road driving is also prohibited, as such behavior may cause irreparable damage to the fragile balance of the natural ecosystem.
We set out for Tarangire National Park across gently rolling Masai plains with scattered acacia trees. The ride to Tarangire is aprox 4h. we enjoy the game drive with a picnic lunch.
Karibu Tarangire Park!
The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses through the park, being the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. With hills, savannas and swampland, the national park has a varied landscape. The baobab trees are impressive! Tarangire has the highest number of breeding bird species habitat in the world.
Tarangire Park, covering approximately 2600 square kilometers, is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of Tarangire River.
From the open roof of our safari jeep we spot wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to good grazing areas.
Tarangire National Park is famous for the baobab trees and the elephant gatherings by the Tarangire River. The park is a “bird watching” destination, as more than 550 bird species are living here, white crowned shrikes and black necked weavers are among the most frequent sightings here. We will spot many thick acacia bush. Across the roads locals are selling acacia honey. I’ve bought 5 jars, delicious souvenir!
We have dinner and overnight at Ang’ata Tarangire Camp.
Ang’ata Tarangire Camp is situated in the heart of Tarangire National Park overseeing Tarangire River. they have only 8 guest tents, realy nice and cozy.
Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in the dining tent. Bush TV (local name for camp fire) is lit when the weather permits.
The food in Ang’ata Camp Tarangire is amaizing. Dinner is served a la carte just like in a Michelin restaurant. I would go for this one again!
We share now some photos we took last time we stayed in Ang’ata Camp Tarangire.
Day 02 – Tarangire – Lake Manyara
Early morning game drive in Tarangire, before breakfast. Return to the lodge to have breakfast. Then drive via the southern park entrance to Lake Manyara National Park.
You should know that the Lake Manyara National Park is situated on the cliffs of the Manyara Enscarpment close to the community of Mto wa Mbu. It’s just halfway between Arusha and the Ngorongoro Crater. The Lake Manyara National Park, despite its diminutive size, boasts a rich ecological diversity as well as amazing fauna and bird species.
You should also be aware that the park opened to the tourists in 1960. Prior to that, it was declared a game reserve in 1957. Lake Manyara National Park covers 330 square kilometers, of which 200 square kilometers are covered by the lake itself.
We will pass the hot springs, where many species of birds and buffalos can be seen. Giraffes, zebras and elephants live in large numbers in Manyara Park and offer unique wildlife viewing scenes.
Thousands of pink flamingos that gather annually on the alkaline Lake Manyara will be visible to you. You will also find lions that can scale trees.
Between June and October are the ideal months to see the flamingos. It is also often a good idea to go there from November to February.
We have lunch in the park’s Picnic area, (collected lunch box from the lodge).
In the afternoon you will reach the Hippo Pool, a waterhole where the pachyderms feel very comfortable.
Love is in the air! Or in the mud?
The hippos are lovingly caressing each other or faithing over territory … that’s a site to see up close! We go there, some of them are sleepy, some are angry, some are playing… to bad we cannot write their sounds…
The African Jacana, flamingos and pelicans appear on the horizon before we leave the park and drive to the lodge.
We stop at the art gallery for shopping. well, the price were reaching the sky!!! oh, my!
Dinner and overnight in Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge – an oasis of peace and tranquility. Each round room has its own small veranda while the interior reflects the blue of the lake and the pink of its flamingos.
Day 03 – Lake Manyara – Ngorongoro Crater
We take breakfast at the lodge. Morning at leisure in the lodge until 10am, or better, let us enjoy an optional short village visit in MTO WA MBU (let’s say 08:30 – 10:30am). Aprox 30 USD/adult.
We take breaksfast earlier in order to do the village tour. Then drive to the Ngorongoro Gate, get there around 11:30 , transfer to Ngorongoro Crater (2h) in time for the picnic lunch in the crater.
If we enter the park around 11:30 am we have more time tomorrow morning, so we could leave around 10:30am, to avoid paying another 24h park permit.
Located on the way to Ngorongoro and Serengeti, Mto wa Mbu is a good way to understand the local life, get a better view into the culture of the many different tribes living in the area, more than 120 tribes living happily side by side.
We begin the tour in the village’s banana plantation, which has over 30 different varieties of bananas grown there. Next, we visit a youth art project, and learn about the different painting styles and techniques. We can buy paintings or other souvenirs.
After that, we went to a woodworking studio where we watched talented Makonde tribe members meticulously carve gorgeous sculptures, masks, and household items. They’ll demonstrate the various sorts of wood and finishings, as well as some of the cultural and historical significance of the carvings. You may even try your hand at carving yourself! Again, there are possibilities to buy carvings if you so choose, but there is no pressure to buy and no pushy haggling, which we found to be extremely reviving.
Following that, we visit a local ‘pub’ to enjoy MBEGE, the traditional banana beer manufactured and consumed mostly by the Chagga tribe. ( I have tasted the banana beer up in the URU area, next to Kilimanjaro outskirts, during the cooking class. I was not to found of it, but many were).
The brewing process is time-consuming, and the beer is typically served in one huge cup, which is shared around the party and refilled as needed.
We finish up the tour with a shopping session in the local market. we buy bananas, avocado, mango…
Then, continue to the Ngorongoro Crater.
Ngorongoro Crater is situated halfway between Karatu town and Serengeti National Park. It is a volcanic crater that is 250 square kilometers in size and 600 meters deep, making it the world’s largest non-flooded caldera. As a result, the Serengeti Plains and the vicinity of Lake Ndutu are part of the approximately 8,300 sq km Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
From December to February the wildebeests arrive at Lake Ndutu inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for the prohibited mating season.
The Maasai Tribe and the local wildlife coexist in Ngorongoro Crater, which makes it so unique.
World famous Ngorongoro Crater is one of the seven wonders of Africa, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Currently Ngorongoro Conservation Authorities are allowing full day crater tour but they might restrict to half day in the future.
At the crater rim, the viewpoint, next to the memorial stone for Bernhard Grzimek, offers a free view into the gigantic cauldron.
Off course we stop for photos. Also we have a story telling moment, the guide shares with us the story of Bernhard Grzimek, important figure helped the Tanzanian National Parks survive till our times. We share the story when we get to Serengeti.
Once we have reached the crater rim, we descend the steep track into the 600 m deep caldera to see a range of animals, birds, grasslands and a lake.
The crater floor also has one of the highest carnivore densities in the world. You will have the chance to see lions, cheetahs, hyenas and jackals are commonly seen. Also we may see big herbivores: buffalo, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, hippos…
The diameter of the rim is 21 km, the circumference is 250 km. The deepest point is the Magadi Salt Lake. Depending on the season, its level rises and attracts countless flamingos hippos, etc.
Using the binoculars, I could catch a hippo opening wide his huge mouth.
This is something, right? We are not allowed to get to close, the hippos could be very dangerous, as they are one of the most powerful creatures.
We stop by the Lake Magadi, for the lunch picnic.
By the lake we will enjoy the picnic lunch, as we took from the hotel the lunch boxes. Many safari cars stop here to have lunch, so drivers meet up, tourists share safari feedbacks.
If we are lucky, we may drink a hot coffee or even have an icecream, as I did before. There was a BAR ZEBRA CAR selling these treats in the middle of the crater! Amazing business!
Later during the day, we return to the lodge.
Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge – on the top of the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Designed to blend completely into the landscape, it is entirely invisible from the floor of the Crater 600 metres below. Each of the 75 rooms enjoys uninterrupted views over the Crater’s unmatched splendor.
Day 04 – Ngorongoro – Serengeti
We take breakfast at the lodge. Drive to Serengeti ( aprox 3h) with an optional Masai Village visit on the way, (30 USD/adult).
Depending on the season, this massive collapsed volcano, the Ngorongoro Crater, counts between 15,000 and 25,000 animals. You have a good chance to observe the “Big Five” (lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard) making the crater the best place in Tanzania to see these amazing creatures.
We drive on to Serengeti. We sing and enjoy. If we are in Serengeti, we should have a Serengeti beer, right?
Serengeti, a UNESCO world heritage site, is home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle, which join in the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Listen to the exotic sounds of over six million hooves pounding the open plains. This is just like you imagined Africa to be!
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge.
The pool looks out over the ‘endless plains’ after which the Serengeti is named. The rooms have stunning views and the food here is very good.
Day 5 Serengeti
Optional Balloon flight at 5am with bush breakfast. (550 usd / person) This will end around 10am. Those who want to skip this amazing opportunity to see the animals from the sky, can sleep more and have breakfast at the lodge.
We did it, we flu the Ballon in Serengeti. the over view of the plains is giving you the feeling of freedom and endless opportunities.
The bush breakfast is good and the team really entertaining.
Next, after 10am, we enjoy a full day game drive in Central Serengeti with picnic lunch in the plains (Collected lunch boxes from the lodge) or return at at the camp/lodge to have lunch.
Morning and afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park.
Serengeti received recognition for preservation in 1929, and the central Serengeti became a Game Reserve. The Ngorongoro Crater was also a part of this reserve when it was established as Tanzania’s first and oldest National Park in 1951. Tanzania’s name during this time was Tangayika.
Serengeti National Park has many entrances, including Naabi Hill Gate, Ikoma Gate, and Ndabaka Gate. The Naabi Hill gate, which links to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is the one we use, as the majority of tourists here.
Serengeti Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, is home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle, which join in the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Listen to the sounds of over six million hooves pounding the open plains. This is just like you imagined Africa to be!
Serengeti Park offers an amazing game-viewing experience in the whole of Africa giving you up-close look of the animals you’ve only seen in National Geographic: great herds of buffalos, smaller groups of elephant and giraffes, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, lion, cheetah, hyena, warthog, kudu, leopard, ostrich, mongoose, impalas and more.
We have a picnic lunch and afternoon game drive in Serengeti.
I bought myself a safari hat, to use and to keep it as a souvenir. But why this message on the hat? “Serengeti should never die”
Two West German researchers, Bernhard and Michael Grzimek helped the Tanzanian National Parks survive till our times in its current natural state.
In 1959, Dr. Bernard Grzimek declared that the “Serengeti shall never die” through his film and book of the same name. Described as “perhaps the best-known and most influential wildlife film ever made”, the German documentary film written and directed by Bernhard Grzimek.
His son, cinematographer Michael Grzimek, died on-location during the filming of the documentary when the plane he piloted collided with a vulture.
Each day is different here, but we follow that unique natural wonder which involves a cast of breathtaking numbers of animals as they make their journey across the Serengeti plains.
Zebra and wildebeest are the most numerous of the migrating animals here, grazing on the short-grass plains of the Southern Serengeti and the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area. But our driver-guide will also be on the lookout for other wildlife, too, using his expertise and ‘eagle-eyes’ to try to find lions, leopard and cheetah – just some of the many, many species you will encounter in this stunning place.
Spend the afternoon game drive spotting all varieties of wildlife ‘on the move’ with our driver-guide.
Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti
In the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, close to Lake Ndutu, the wildebeest migration begins in December and lasts until February. It is formally referred to as the mating season.
From June to August, animals migrate north of the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. We will also see river crossings on the Mbalageti and Grumeti rivers.
The wildebeest are in Kenya for September and October.
The Wildebeest Migration moves to the south and central Serengeti National Park in October and November for the next mating season. This is an estimate based on the months of the wildebeest migration.
Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is a complete safari. This is why December – January are the pick months and the price could go up. So, book early, to choose the proper stay!
Dinner and overnight at the lodge in Serengeti.
Now it’s time to select the photos, share the last jokes, enjoy the night.
Day 6 – transfer Seronera Airstrip Serengeti
After a great service during the breakfast time we take our last good bye from the friendly staff and we head to Seronera airstrip for the check-in formalities.
We fly out to to Arusha, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar, as we initially booked the international connecting flights.
We give thanks the driver/guide who made our trip so good to remember! We appreciate his work with a nice tip.
We say: ASANTE SANA!
(Thank you very much!)
He replies: KARIBU! (Welcome!)
So, for us is not bye bye Tanzania, but “see you next time!”
