Gobi Desert & Naadam Festival

Itinerary proposal for july 2026

Day 1 Welcoming day 

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, by flyght. Transfer to hotel. Rest until lunch. Late afternoon we will visit Bogd Khaan Palace museum.

Walk by yourself to the Sukhbaatar square to experience the festival atmosphere with the Deeltei Mongol- Mongolian costume show and in the evening some musical performance.

Night in the hotel Best Western Premiere Tuushin or/ Hotel Nine Ulaanbaatar.  BLD

Day 2 Naadam Festival + Chinggis Khan Statue
Naadam festival is opened officially by the President of Mongolia. The opening ceremony features a colorful show with folk music and dance, parachute show and more. The first round of wrestling will start immediately thereafter. After lunch travel to Chinggis Khan Statue astride his horse (50kms away).  Visitors can take a picture with a golden eagle or vulture on their hand when they are outside of the statue complex.

Continue drive to the national Park Terelj (45 km away) – Visit the Turtle rock area, Ariyabal meditation center (this is a small local temple, location is good in the mountain hill). Horse riding/or mountain biking available in this area. Dinner by the camp and return to UB for dinner and rest.

Day 3 Visit horse racing field
In the morning drive outside the city to the racer’s village and see the horse racing. We want seats by the finish line, is that the best position?-Yes, this case we book and buy seat tickets in advance. Lunch as a picnic.-There is also many small dining houses/Yurts temporarely built and served at Horse racing field during the festival.  In the afternoon drive back to the city and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon free time, also for dinner, to explore the city on their own. BD
Street food could be found with vendors in Seoul street only.

Day 4 Flight to Yol valley
Early morning we will transfer to local airport and flight to south Gobi. Arrive in Dalanzadgad town and drive to Yol valley (Lammergeier’s Gorge) about 40kms. This picturesque place is nestled between the beautiful peaks of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountain and shelters rich wildlife. Visit Gobi museum and walking through the valley. Move to Ger camp for 45kms. Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD

Ger camp: „Gobi Mirage” – this camp has standard/ and luxury (ensuite bathroom) Gers, electricity is provided morning 6am-9am, evening 7pm-11pm.

Day 5 GURVAN SAIKHAN – KHONGOR ELS (SINGING DUNES) – DUNE CLIMBING
Travel to Khongor Els about 180kms through the rocky tracks through the Gurvan Saikhan hills via the Dungenir Pass, and onto Khongoryn Els via the scenic southern route. As you drive, look out for herds of white-tailed gazelles and demoiselle or white-naped cranes, there will also be stops for rest and photography. Have lunch at the ger camp near the dunes and if the forecast is good, take the short drive to the Singing Dunes, and climb up for a spectacular view. Afterwards return to the ger camp for dinner. Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD

Ger camp: ’Gobi Erdene’ (standard Ger) or ’Gobi Erdene’ (luxury Wooden hut). Electricity is provided morning 6am-9am, evening 7pm-11pm)


Day 6 Visit to nomad family & camel riding
Today we will travel for 160kms to Bayanzag, red flamming cliffs area, the cemetary of dinosaures. And visit a nomad family and have a chance to see nomadic life in the Gobi. You can taste traditional dairy products as made of camel cows’ milk.
Optional camel riding is available.
Stay overnight in Ger camp. BLD

Ger camp: ’Mongol Gobi’ (standard Ger) or ’Dream Gobi Lodge’ (luxury Ger), electricity sourced from central line, provided 24hours.

Day 7 Flight to Ulaanbaatar & Farewell dinner
Morning, transfer for 70kms to the local airport and take a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon you can visit Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the center of Mongolian Buddhists and city shops for world famous cashmere products and souvenirs.

In the evening traditional Mongolian Folklore concert (including traditional songs, throat singing, contortion, dances with national costumes, ritual Tsam mask dancing, melodies by traditional instruments) followed by a farewell dinner in a city restaurant.

Day 8 Flight back home
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
